Comments to Cline Mine
Dear Garry Alexander,
Dear Premier Gordon Campbell,
Dear Governor Brian Schweitzer,
I hope that Canada and the United States develop a permanent bi-national plan for conservation of the Transboundary Flathead that will compliment the achievements of Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.
As a landowner, a full time year round resident, and the manager of a business in the floodplains of the North Fork of the Flathead River (Flathead River in Canada) I feel that Cline's strip mine and other planned development in the Flathead will be permanently harmful to my life, health, home, and economic future - the same is true for my fellow humans, wildlife, and environs.
We do not want to live in a potential toxic spillway!
Protecting the Transboundary Flathead will be an "investment" into our common future economy. This international wilderness jewel can provide longterm sustainable income through tourism, guiding, and other commercial outdoor activities as well as conserve our most valuable and most threatened resource: Clean Water!
You are in a position to make a decision and a difference here.
Green house emission controls and restrictions in the wake of Kyoto are inevitable. Do you want to allow surface mining, mountaintop removal, and other mining activities, and be responsible for short term energy security with benefits only to the few - with detrimental results for our environment - or can you be a visionary for the many present and future generations who will draw inspiration and strength from this place to find longterm sustainable solutions to transition into a clean energy future?
It is up to you-
